Mercury-Free Fillings and Mercury Fillings Safe Removal at All About Family Dental

Many dentists still choose to use amalgam (silver) fillings which contain mercury, but more and more questions have been raised about the safety of the mercury vapour released from amalgam fillings by various forms of stimulation.

Why are Mercury fillings so harmful?

Dental mercury and its vapour have been scientifically linked to a number of health risks which demonstrate the danger of dental amalgam mercury fillings. Mercury vapour is continuously emitted from dental amalgam fillings, and much of this mercury is absorbed and retained in the body. The output of mercury can be intensified by the number of fillings and other activities, such as chewing, teeth-grinding, and the consumption of hot liquids. Mercury is also known to be released during the placement, replacement, and removal of dental amalgam fillings.

At All About Family Dental we offer only mercury-free fillings placement and mercury safe removal of amalgam fillings. Dr. Smadych uses Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Protocol that protects the patient, as much as possible, from unnecessary and excessive exposure to mercury during filling removal.

Dr. Smadych will then place the composite fillings which are made up of materials that have physical properties closer to that of teeth. The bonding properties in this material also reduce decay and restore the tooth and structure. Another benefit to mercury-free fillings is that the material’s colouring better matches your natural tooth colour, so you will hardly notice them as compared to silver fillings.
